Coach Terry

The following was written by one of Terry's former soccer players. I believe he wrote it for school. He is now in Junior High. I am posting it as it was sent to me.

You never know when people or kids are watching you. It makes me proud to know that my love has impacted lives in the way that he has. This child has my husband pegged and I am grateful that someone so young understands what Terry is all about.....I must say this brought tears to my eyes.

Battle Wounds

Don't Worry it's just a ba-el oound”. Coach Terry would say this as we limped off the field with a bloody leg, a black eye, or just an itsy-bitsy mosquito bite. Coach Terry has a strong, sturdy frame boasting broad shoulders. Coach keeps his brown hair short to keep the sweat off his childish, yet experienced facial expressions. Coach Terry has the eyes of a strong leader that give you a sense of strength and security.

Coach Terry's daughter, Bella, is a big part of his life. He used to work at a job downtown and coach our Division 1 soccer team. He's played soccer his whole life. Coach Terry put aside time to coach our youth soccer team. It was his dedication. Coach Terry's life was soccer until he had Bella. Instead of coaching another year, he quit his coaching job and became a dad. Coach Terry treated each one of his kids on the soccer team as individuals. He befriended his team and gained their trust. He gave us all nicknames and learned what we did outside of soccer and just became an important person in his players' lives. He was never our coach after the first week. He was our friend.

He was always frustrated at anyone who did not try and give everything their all. He would get angry and eventually fuming as almost as hot as the devil himself towards the ones who did not try. He often said, “As long as you try and give everything that you have.” Coach Terry wanted everything at top speed. He made us run and run until we had to puke. If you could not run you would try to limp, try to crawl, and try to do anything he said. As long as you tried the devil inside of my coach would not come out.

We threw a surprise baby shower for our coach as sort of joke and for fun. He was very surprised but he quickly accepted himself and his wife as the stars as they were meant to be instead of being shy and leaving quickly. We had a great time and there were many jokes and laughter exchanged. There was cake, tons of presents, and small little booties given to Coach Terry and his wife Emily.

When Coach Terry told us that he was going to not be coming back, our faces turned cold and saddened. It was a heart-wrenching moment, with as many as a few teardrops.

Coach Terry has taught me to always have a strong work ethic. Coach Terry always ran us as hard as he could. He always had a positive attitude while we ran. We were always supposed to give it our all when we were running. During the parts of our practice when we ran, Coach Terry praised the slow kid that was going as fast as he could and you could see the stress on the slow kid's face as he ran. Apposed to the fast kid that went at whatever speed he wanted to and had an attitude of “I am faster then you and you better know it.” He never had a word of praise for the fast kid with the attitude. You will never hear a negative thing coming from his mouth, unless the words are of the necessary kind. When we were running, it would look like he was torturing us and screaming his lungs out. Coach Terry was actually praising us and telling us what a good job.

Once he left the soccer team for his daughter, I asked him if we could do some personal training sessions. He accepted. At the beginning we started to pass the soccer ball around just to warm up. I told him what was going on with our new coach and how our soccer team was doing. We started to joke around and just play with the ball. It was a very humorous first few minutes. After we were warmed up we began to start to get into some more serious work out drills with the ball. We had serious faces but we still were messing around a little bit. Although we were messing around we were also doing lots of sit-ups, running, shooting, and push-ups. During the whole time under Coach Terry my work ethic grew immensely and I learned to give everything my all.

Coach Terry also taught me by example what is meaningful in life. He showed me that family and love was the most important part of the path that we are going to go walk. By choosing Bella over soccer and coaching he showed me how to get my priorities straight in life. By looking at Coach Terry's life, it can help me decide where I want to go in my life.

Corsicana

On our way back to Houston we stopped in Corsicana to visit with Terry's family. We spent a little time in Downtown Corsicana taking some pictures of Bella. She was getting kinda tired so we didn't quite get as many as planned but we still got a few. When we got back Paw Paw Ervin taught Bella a new trick....

Scoop up the leaves..

Put your hands above your head.....

and watch them fall!!

You also might get a little help from Paw Paw!

She also talked Paw Paw into pulling her in the wagon.

and then she and Paw Paw talked Granny into pulling them.

It's begining to look a lot like Christmas.

So we've gotten our Christmas decoration up, but unfortunately they are in jail....or so it seems. It is necessary to keep them safe from the small, but precious little girl that lives at our house. Well really it's for our own selfishness. If we didn't have the gate up we would be continually saying:

"No Ma'am"

"That's not for your hands"
" That's not a choice"
"NO BELLA"
and the ever popular
"ISABELLA GRACE!"
and so on.

It's safe to say that she loves the Christmas tree. Before the gate went up she was doing a fabulous job of taking the ornaments off the tree. She even put a dirty diaper IN the tree. That's what Daddy gets for not putting it in the trash. I understand her logic and she was just trying to help....I'm sure of that!

Thank goodness the gate is long enough to protect the tree and the stairs at the same time!!

Bella got a new stocking this year. I LOVE it. I ordered it from Pottery Barn Kids. I think I may just have to order the grown-ups in our house one as well, we need to all match!

I love these trees. I want to get a third one so they can be a little family just like us!!

Thanksmas 2009

On Wednesday we headed North to Dallas to spend Thanksmas with the Cox side of the family. We have "Thanksmas" every other year, Thanksgiving for lunch then we open Christmas gifts in the evening. This year we were all together except for Blake and Katie. They spent Thanksgiving in Boerne. And Blake sure did take my grandmother's cinnamon roll recipe and make me very jealous by tweeting me and Tiffany pictures of them. We sure did miss them being with us, Blake and Katie, and maybe the cinnamon rolls too!!My uncle is a lover of trains. Ryan appears to have become a lover of trains as well. He was so funny. He would just lay down on the floor and watch the train go round and round. Courtney joined him some of the time.

Bella LOVES the Christmas tree. She looks at it and goes "ooooohhh". I think she is saying pretty tree but it sounds more like "pee-ee teeee". She has a VERY hard time not touching it....ok, she doesn't even try not to touch it and she just smiles at you when you tell her "no".
Neat....

Courtney loves her little brother. I love them both. I have the sweetest most gorgeous niece and nephew in the whole wide world.

Ryan looked like such a big boy, hanging out, lounging on his side watching the train. Such a cutie pants!!
Bella relaxing with cousin Calli.

Every year each family has to take a family picture. The boys usually complain although they didn't to much this year. I guess they have just given up an quit fighting it. It's about time.

and again....

All the cousins in our very cool Thanksmas shirts that Tiffany had made for us!!

Cousins crazy picture. Notice on the left Ashley is throwing up in a fake bowl made by Calli. Tyler and Ashley drove from Nashville on Wednesday night. Ashely caught a virus from someone at work and had the unfortunate privilege of throwing up all the way from Nashville to Denton. Tyler didn't make the picture because he was so lucky to get the virus on Thanksgiving. Also take note of Christopher in the middle of the picture..... What is HE doing?!?!

Tim and Papa

Apparently my grandparents are gangsta's...

After our pictures we opened presents. We have a tradition of starting from the youngest and then one by one going all the way to the oldest. All of us grandkids exchanged names and gave gift cards and we always get money from Mema and Papa. The great grandkids however still get a couple of presents to open. Ryan got a doll, ummmm I mean, a dump truck. But he was REALLY excited about this doll. Bella began pulling it out of the sack and the boy literally pushed Terry out of his way so that he could get to it. It was his turn to open his present next and he was NOT happy about it because he wanted the doll. Funny thing is.... Bella kept picking up the clothes he got. I don't know...... Anyway he finally got to Bella's doll and he was so sweet with her. He loved on her and made sure she had her paci in her mouth. He's gonna be a good daddy!!
Ryan with his baby.

Ryan was hugging Bella. He actually hugged her right into the Christmas tree :)

Tiffany and I in our Thanksmas 2009 t-shirts. Just in case you were wondering it's Santa riding a turkey....that's how we roll.

I have so much to be thankful this year:
  • my precious husband
  • my precious baby girl
  • a roof over my head
  • a great job
  • a great family
  • mom and dad
  • grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins
  • siblings, nieces, and nephews
  • our health
  • our sweet puppy
  • but most importantly - my precious husband and my precious baby girl - I know I said that twice :)

uh oh....

Any body that knows me well, knows that this could cause a MAJOR problem. Notice that she is looking at me and smiling from ear to ear. I already had to fight Courtney off of my blanket when she was about Bella's age. Now it seems as though this could be even worse, seeing as how this child actually lives with me...... It's a good thing I love this girl, alot!!

Trunk or Treat

Yes, I am behind.....again....story of my life lately.

On to Trunk or Treat. On Halloween we took Bella up to the church for Trunk or Treat. She had so much fun walking around and seeing all the kids. She was definitely exerting her independence. I have no idea where she gets that from :).

This is a new thing she does..every time we grab her hand to walk with her, she sits down. Again with the independence thing.

Talkin' to Tilly. I am sure she was telling her something very important.

Our trunk. We had no idea what we were doing as it was our first year to participate. Next year we know exactly what we need to do.

She had a great 2nd Halloween. It's hard to believe we have already had two with her. Now it's time to get ready for our 2nd Thanksgiving and Christmas!!
